27/10/2022Short Brewing
We will just use the example of extract kits; and to be quite honest, this is a simple concept and doesn’t warrant loads and loads of information!
Many extract kits that you buy, whether they be beer, cider or wine will come with a recommended amount of water to create the chosen brew.
The idea of ‘short brewing’ is to reduce the amount of water used when re-diluting the extract and making the beer, cider or wine.
Think of it like a fruit cordial you buy from the supermarket. If you want it to taste stronger you either add more cordial or less water. The same applies here… you add less water!
Short brewing will mean there is more sugar per litre of water before fermentation. Just remember not to short brew too much as the yeast you are using may struggle to get going or may stall if you do.
